Our committment to the Mitchell community runs deep within our culture. Below you'll see some of the exciting opportunities we've had to help make Mitchell a great place to live and work!
|
"Batter up"
UPT has introduced a first class batting cage to Mitchell. It has been gradually developed and has become a hitters place of choice among Mitchell's younger players such as the Mavericks, two 10 and under teams which UPT also sponsors, high school and legion teams, college and amateur baseball players.
UPT encourages parents to utilize the cage for free to spend quality time working on your youngster's baseball and softball skills. Just bring your own bat and balls, be careful and swing away. There is also an exact replica of Cadwell's mound, created by Cadwell's staff, to pitch from. Please clean up after yourselves, be careful and enjoy.

Giving Back
UPT had an opportunity to do something for a special teacher and school in our community. The teacher is Betty McNeil and the school is John Paul II. Mrs. McNeil is Scott's Aunt and her children (Scott's cousins) taught Scott and friends how to rock climb in the Black Hills. We thought a good way to say thanks is to allow area youth to experience the same thrill of climbing in a safe environment while Betty uses that joy to develop physical skills of strength, endurance, teamwork, flexibility and function. We hope the kids and Betty enjoy the wall as much as we have. Thanks Pat, Mike, Danny, Terry and of course Jack and Betty.

Play ball!
Scott has had the opportunity to follow along with Legion Post 18 baseball for many years now and has been involved with Mitchell High School baseball. UPT provides acute on the field help with minor injuries, assesses for potential serious injuries and generally follows up with those injuries with the player's physician. Supporting the system of baseball from 10 and under leagues through UPT's amateur team, which has finished 2nd in the State Amateur final standing is a priority for UPT.
|
Hockey anyone?
UPT has had the privilege of following the Mitchell Marlins since 1998. As with baseball, UPT follows the games with Scott, now a level III coach, so he can be in the box. UPT sponsors a summer conditioning program to help the kids prepare for their season.
|
Mitchell Jaycees
Scott was a 2003 recipient of the Jaycees "10 Outstanding Young South Dakotans" Award of which he is a current member. Please support your local Jaycees if you are able.
|
Other Involvement
UPT is also involved with other youth and charitable organizations to include the Boy Scouts of America, Abbott House where Scott is a current board member, Mitchell Chamber of Commerce member. Scott has served with the Mitchell Park and Rec Board. Carla Houwman has been involved with the Middle Border Museum fund raising committee, Sedici. Blue Jean Friday contributions to go charities of the staff's choice such as the Angel Tree at Christmas, March of Dimes, etc. UPT enjoys involvement with the Cancer Walk, sponsors the 8 area Athletes of Q107, KORN and is a proud contributor to the Mitchell High School Booster Club including the shooting machines at the high school. Kids looking to go to summer camps can apply for cash for volunteered time up to $50.00 (forms available at UPT). Overall, our involvement in the community by all staff members is fun, rewarding and well worth the financial expense and time.
